About the Role
Job Summary:
The Fire Alarm / Access Control Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fire alarm systems and access control systems. This role ensures compliance with local and national codes, customer specifications, and industry standards. The technician works independently or as part of a team to complete projects safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, program, test, and service fire alarm and access control systems.
Troubleshoot and repair system malfunctions, wiring issues, and device failures.
Perform regular inspections and maintenance per NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and manufacturer guidelines.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Work with other trades, such as electricians and security system installers, to ensure seamless integration.
Communicate with clients and provide recommendations on system upgrades or repairs.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and national electrical and fire codes.
Document work performed, including service reports, inspections, and system programming.
Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in fire alarm and access control systems.
Follow company safety procedures and use appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (technical school training preferred).
Minimum 2+ years of experience in fire alarm or access control systems installation and maintenance.
Certification in fire alarm or security systems (e.g., NICET, OSHA, manufacturer-specific certifications) is a plus.
Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights.
Basic understanding of networking and IT systems for access control integrations.
